Batman

After many MANY attempts, we finally got a picture of Uncle Alex and Julia in their Batman shirts. As a side  note, notice the batman logo on Alex's door! And, he has like 10 Batman shirts. Fun fact.

 These two are my fav!

Photo shoot

I may be partial, but my baby is so cute I could just eat her up! Here is here first photo shoot at six months that was done by my ever-so-talented friend Amberly! She did a great job on the pictures and I'm excited to finally have good quality pics of my baby. She's so adorable!

6 months!

This past month has been an exciting month for little Jules. We took a 14 hr (one way) trip to California for my dad's wedding, she got her first tooth, then she got her second tooth, she rolls all over the place (back to tummy and vice versa) and has learned that she loves a lot of her baby food. Her new "crack" is plum apple grape baby food. She cannot get enough of it! She is talking a lot more and starting to make "mama" sounds. She has recently (finally) started to sleep better and longer through the night.
Just today we did a photo shoot for her 6 month photos and I will post them soon. Here are some pictures of her from the beach with Papa Ron.

5 months old

Our little Jules is 5 months old! Oh how time passes. She got measured today and she is 14 lbs (25th percentile) 23.5 inches (5th percentile) and I didn't see her head measurement, but her head size is in the 50th percentile. Our baby has a melon head ;)

This past week she has decided she wants to sit up all on her own, which is fun. She also has been making baby cereal a regular part of her diet, which is also fun (and messy). We are so glad that she is healthy and catching up in size!

The Park

On Saturday Julia and I made our first trip to the park. To our pleasure the park was completely empty so we had free reign of the place. Here are some of our favorite photos from her first visit:

 My favorite one (above).
About 2.2 seconds later she started to cry. She did not like laying in the leaves.
Contrary to popular belief, she is not sliding. She is sitting still here. I would obviously not let my baby go down a slide alone.

Her "sitting." She leans forward a lot, but we're still working on it :)

Her first ride on a swing
All bundled up on our way home.

My glorious moment of mini-freedom

Julia is asleep. It's been 2 1/2 hours and I've been able to get a lot done. Mainly my paper that is due in the morning. If you ever get your baby to sleep for longer than 30 minutes, enjoy that time. It is rare in this house. I blogged for goodness sake! I even finished my paper and edited it...twice!

As a side note, we had to write from a feminist perspective, thus I discovered that from that point of view Star Wars is a failure.

Birthday weekend

These days everything exciting in my life includes my little Julia. This weekend for birthday weekend we stayed the night at my mom's house to have some adventures. Friday we went to Gardner's Village in West Jordan, made caramel corn, and stayed up late (late according to me is 10 pm) watching movies. Then today we made homemade apple sauce, pumpkin butter, and pumpkin muffins filled with cream cheese frosting. Yum. Here are our adventures:
Saturday morning :) I LOVE these pajamas!
Gardner's Village had a ton of witches everywhere, here are our favorites:
Note the Jeff Gordon t-shirt. Awesome fire-witch
 Me and the baby
 Mom and the frog witch.
I saved the best picture for last: The Batman shirts! Julia and Uncle Alex are too cute! If she wouldn't have spit up on hers we could have taken another picture of him holding her. Believe you me, it will happen.

Four Months old!

I can hardly stand the thought that my little girl is already four months old. And since I'm posting this a little late, she is technically four months and one week old. Our little girl now weighs 13 lbs 5.5 oz and is 23.5" long! Pretty much she has tripled in body weight since her birth and she has grown 6 inches. Currently she can hold her head up sans help and she is really starting to love tummy time. Our biggest new thing is that she has begun eating baby cereal. She is doing pretty good at eating from a spoon, but she gets distracted by the cereal bowls (they have flowers and butterflies on them). Dad and I decided to take her off of her medicines and to let her body regulate itself. This is a good thing :) This week at her 4-month check up the doctor was very impressed with her progress and told us that she had caught up developmentally, which is HUGE since she was premature. We are very excited about this. Our little Jules is all smiles and giggles and recently has begun, what we call, yelling talking. She's not crying or upset, she just yells when she "talks." She is also working on sitting up on her own, and though she has the strength, she doesn't quite have the coordination. She is all about her hands and playing with her monkey and rabbit toy things. She wants to suck on anything she can get her hands on! She also loves to hold her feet and roll from side to side.

I apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures. I just found my camera cord so in the future I shouldn't have to use my phone to take pictures anymore.
Here's Jules in her Halloween shirt (more Halloween pics to come). It says "I'm batty for mommy"

This was taken yesterday at Cabellas. My mom was talking to her and getting her to smile. She loves grandma!

I consider this purple outfit her first big girl outfit! She is so stinkin' cute I can barely handle it!!

She LOVES her hands and is always sucking on her fingers or grabbing her feet!

Party foul

I just printed a yummy cinnamon roll recipe. It said one page would print.
There is a second piece of paper that printed with one line on it which is completely irrelevant to the recipe.
Stupid printer.

Grudges

So, I hold the most bizarre grudges, mostly to do with entertainment.

My friend Emily recently posted on her blog about how excited she is for this week because all of her favorite shows are premiering. I must say that I join in her excitement. However, there are still some things that I'm trying to reconcile/get over from last season.

I still cannot believe that Cuddy dumped House. It really bothers me. It took them six season just to get together and then they barely stay together for half a season. I think she was being emotional and flighty and stupid. It bothers me. A lot. It bothers Brenan, too. We just  bought the 7th season and he refuses to watch the episode where she breaks up with him. I feel like they were meant to be and I don't know where they'll (the producers/writers) go from here. Bren and I both agree that this is probably the last season.

I have been mad at NBC for nearly three years for canceling My Name is Earl mid-season. We don't know what happened! You can't just cancel a show mid season. Jerks. I have no problem admitting that I really like that show and that I don't think it's replacements are nearly as good (Parks & Rec, Community, Outsourced, etc...).

I recently found out that another show we like was canceled. Traffic Light. Go to hulu and watch it because it is hilarious! Fox seems to cancel a lot of shows after their first season. Lame. Super lame.

This brings me to my most important new grudge. The release of the Star Wars on blu ray. I love Star Wars, but I will say that I am not a fan of this "new" version. George Lucas has completely ruined the integrity of the original films by digitally manipulating episodes IV-VI. They are not the originals. Part of their charm and nostalgia was to see that late 70's early 80's "special effects" and now it's ruined with modern digital replacements. We forked out (and by "we" I mean my dad) big bucks to buy the movies on blu ray and I'm really disappointed. I quit watching episode four about forty-five minutes in to the movie and I don't know if I can bring myself to watch the rest of the old ones without wanting to throw the remote at the tv. And I'm sure that George Lucas could not care less about this because he's rolling around in millions upon millions of dollars. Well guess what George Lucas? You've never won an Oscar. Suck on that!

And this brings me to my final thought: Modern Family is hilarious. Watch it. Love it.

3 months old

It has been an eventful month for little Julia. After our trip to AZ we had Seth's wedding reception in the middle of the month. Then, the next weekend was John's  bday, and the weekend after that (Labor Day) was her blessing. Thus far Julia loves bath time, making faces (she'll mimic us, which we LOVE), and snuggling. She still has GERD :( and she is definitely growing a ton. We  have just now been able to fit her in 0-3 and 3 month clothes. The longest she has slept through the night is 7 hours, and it only happened once. She took moving to her own room like a champ and very rarely does she sleep with us. She is definitely a morning person and when she wakes up she is all smiles.

Here is our little doll:

Julia with her cousin Grace. Grace absolutely loved holding her and wanted to help me take care of her at every turn.
Let's be real, we're a pretty goofy family. This was at Seth and Nikki's reception
Family photo. John needs to be photoshopped in. He ran away for some reason. Anyway, this is all of the kids and grandkids.
I'm not sure why this photo didn't rotate, but here is Julia sleeping in her blessing dress.
Another goofy shot of the three of us.
This was just after her blessing. We tried to take as many pictures as possible while she was asleep. Of course, the sun was in our eyes. On a side note, Brenan gave her a wonderful blessing! Elder Nelson was there, so it made it even more special.
 Cole family photo.
Our precious little angel. She was exactly three months old on her blessing day.

Mad Men

We don't have tv. So, we find shows on Netflix/Hulu and see what we think. The past few weeks Brenan and I started watching Mad Men. We LOVE it. A lot. It's addicting like Desperate Housewives, but it's a drama. Between the two of us we managed to watch all of the episodes very quickly. Brenan would stay up super late watching the episodes and later he would fill me in on what I missed and vice-versa when I watched without him.  This show is ridiculously addicting and captivating. From what I've read online, it is very true to the time period. I love all of the clothes and I wonder what it would be like to wear hats all the time. Everyone wore hats and it was so classy. The dresses, the hair-dos, the jewelry, the suits...I love it all.

Banana Republic released a Mad Men collection and needless to say, I had to buy a dress. Brenan bought me this dress:

It isn't from the collection, but it's very similar. The one that was similar didn't look as good on me. My next dress will be from the collection. I want this one:

2 months!

Our little Julia is growing up so quickly! Just this week she started smiling ALL THE TIME and she has started "talking" a lot more as well. She loves to hold her head up and look around and she has even begun following things more with her head. She can hold her head up for awhile, but it still bobbles, which is cute. We still call her our little teradactyl since she makes the weirdest screech-like noises when she is drowsy/sleeping. This past week-ish she has moved up from newborn clothes and diapers into 0-3 month clothes and size 1 diapers. She more easily falls asleep in her swing, which is nice for me, and she is starting to sleep in her bed more often. Hopefully we'll have her transitioned into her crib in her room in the next month.

Here we are at the doctor's office, just before she got her shots.
My little ducky :) She loves bath time!
All smiles!!!
